Cut berries have tails and top. On low heat cook flavored syrup, vinegar, water, sugar and spices. Add gooseberry and boil for 3 minutes (when ripe, then 2 minutes). Spoon berries into hot sterilized jars, pour syrup top. It is desirable to leave for two weeks in a cool place before use. Serve with cold meats (especially well with duck).
